For the last few years, Cheryl has sung in the Torrance Civic Chorale; Mark hopes to join her there in the spring of 2001, but his prior commitment to be in the cast of "My Fair Lady" with the church's theater group prevented him from doing so for the late-2000 season. On the other hand, that meant he was able to be in the audience and to applaud her at the group's Christmas concert on Friday & Saturday, 8-9 December 2000.
Several of Cheryl's friends came to the concert on the two nights; on Friday, Stacy was there, and Cynthia (a friend in the Chorus) shot this photo in front of the Christmas tree out in the lobby of the Armstrong Theater after the concert.
On Saturday, we went to Marie Callender's after the concert with the group who were in the audience that night; clockwise from Cheryl in this photo are Dana, Leslie, Donna, and Greg. (Stacy, Dana, and Greg are former co-workers of Cheryl, and she doesn't see Leslie and Donna every day either; she is a lot better than I (Mark) am about keeping in touch with people whom she doesn't see day to day! This website is, in part, an attempt to get some of that trait to "rub off" on me...)
The very next day, Cheryl had her annual Christmas party at her place; some of the invitees were unable to attend, so it was a small, intimate gathering. Between us on the couch, left to right, are Amy, Bob, and Robin; Amy and Robin are friends from The Aerospace Players (Amy was also in "My Fair Lady" with us), and Bob is Robin's boyfriend. (The camera was balanced on the TV set and triggered by its self-timer, so there's nobody behind the camera and out of the shot.) Cheryl served the same lasagna recipe that she made for Mark on our first date, plus some other treats; fortunately for him, he spilled sauce on his shirt this time rather than back then when he was trying to make a good first impression! That's why he's underdressed for the occasion, in a 15-year-old Halley's Comet T-shirt that he had lent to Cheryl as "blackout clothes" when she was running the scene changes in "My Fair Lady," and that she pulled out of the closet for him so we could soak the stain on the shirt he had arrived in...
