From day one, Lura has enjoyed looking at strongly-patterned things, like the horizontal blinds on all our windows or the lights in a chandelier or over a bathroom mirror. We have put a small blanket printed with teddy bears in her cradle, close enough that she can focus on it, and when she is in there and not asleep (not very often, since she prefers to be held when she's awake and not being fed!) she enjoys looking at it.
In this picture and the one above, Lura is just short of eight weeks old. She usually doesn't mind lights, or noise, or anything at all (like Daddy's snoring!) when she's sleeping; however, occasionally we will find that she has rolled on her side and covered her face with one arm.
Wonder from whom she learned to do that?
When she was about eight weeks old, Lura went with Cheryl to her and Mark's workplaces to meet some of our friends there. Here she is meeting Colleen and Susan down the hall from Mark's office at Aerospace.
Lura's a little young for Trick-Or-Treating, so we didn't make her a costume, but Jim and Sara from the choir gave her a nice Halloween bib. Here Mark is holding her, dressed in his biker garb, as he got ready to hand out treats from his helmet.
Here she is, emulating the little ghost on the bib!
As the weather has turned cooler (we won't say "colder," in deference to our family and friends who live farther north than Southern California or Hawaii!), we've been putting her to bed in long gowns or, as here, in one-piece sleepers with "footies." She's just short of nine weeks old in this photo.
On 2 November 2003, Mark's old friends (from Princeton and Caltech) Karl and Debbie, and their daughter Anna, came out to meet Lura. They had just returned from Australia, and showed us a videotape of a most enviable diving cruise they took to the Great Barrier Reef!
4 November 2003 was our second wedding anniversary; we greatly enjoyed thinking back on our brief history together (we met about three and a half years ago), and on how far we'd come! To celebrate, we went with Lura to our favorite local Italian restaurant; Lura was somewhat fussy, so we ate in shifts so one of us could hold her, and we were fortunate that the restaurant was nearly deserted so that we didn't disturb other diners. The staff didn't mind, and helped us enjoy our evening (the complimentary slice of tiramisu sure didn't hurt!).
