Mark's birthday was 2 June 2004; the next day he had signed up to bring refreshments for the church choir rehearsal, so Cheryl and Lura came by at the break with a cake (mocha haupia from King's Hawaiian, of course).
Cheryl had also picked up fruit and vegetable trays, and had prepared a seven-layer dip and her signature Chex mix. Quite a feast! Note Lura's first forward-facing stroller, since she has outgrown the rear-facing one we used to clip her car seat into.
On Saturday 5 June 2004, Cheryl had arranged for another birthday surprise: as she had done three years earlier, she arranged for his college friends Karl and Debbie and their daughter Anna to come down from La Crescenta. This was an even more enjoyable visit because Debbie's parents were in town, and they came too!
Debbie's mom was behind the camera in the previous photo; here she is with Lura, who obviously feels she's in good hands! Mark had met Mrs. Padgett at Karl, Debbie, and Anna's house a few times over the last several years, but this was the first time he'd seen Mr. Padgett since Karl & Debbie's wedding over a decade ago.
Anna helped Cheryl make this delicious fruit trifle for dessert.
10 June 2004 was the last meeting of the "Mommy and Me" class Cheryl and Lura had been attending on Thursdays. Lura is good about sharing things; here she joins Conner in playing with a musical toy.
Ivy is the daughter (and granddaughter) of some of our friends from the church; her mom and Cheryl were happy to find themselves in the class together, especially since it was taught by Linda Mack, another friend from the church.
Here's a "class photo" of most of the babies (with mommies holding some of them from behind the couch). Clockwise from upper left are Ivy, Jameson, Joshua, Nathan, Lura, Charlie, Graham, and somebody who's looking away from the camera.
Lura plays hard, and when class is over she is usually soon sound asleep! Here she is stretched out across an extra-wide Costco shopping cart (after the next to last class), solidly asleep in her Floppy Seat. She's earned it!
