As part of our continuing efforts to keep up Lura's interest in taking a bath, Cheryl found her some washable crayons with which she can draw on the walls of the Jacuzzi in the master bathroom as we wash her. On April 2nd she used them to draw her first piece of representational art: this is a "pony--neigh!"
On April 7th Cheryl and Lura went with their class to the Huntington Gardens, which had a special section for little ones called the Children's Garden. Lura was particularly interested in a series of kid-high fountains there, as were many of the others.
Afterward Lura gave her friend Ivy a push as she wore her cool shades in her stroller.
Ivy and Lura look like they had a great time at the Children's Garden, as they head home with Dylan in his family's minivan.
That evening Mark stayed with Lura so Cheryl and the others in the class could have a "Moms' Night Out" at Pancho's to celebrate Kathy's birthday.
For some years before we met, Cheryl had been on the board of Comprehensive Child Development, a children's charity in Long Beach and San Pedro. On April 29th they rededicated one of their main buildings to the memory of Dr. Benedict, a longtime board member (whom Mark had met separately through our respective church choirs). We went to the celebration, and Lura enjoyed climbing around on and in the playground equipment there.
The next night, we drove up to La Crescenta to have dinner with our friends Karl, Debbie, and Anna. Lura also enjoyed petting their dog, Max (sorry, old boy, but my red-eye-reduction software only works on photos of humans).
Lura also enjoyed reaching up to the keyboard of their very nice electric piano. We're looking into getting a piano, but we haven't decided on electric vs. acoustic, new vs. used, etc.
Mark forgot his tripod, so Cheryl was behind the camera for this shot. Lura is slumping down rather emphatically in Anna's lap; we stayed kind of late, and she was pretty much out of steam after a fun visit!
