Late May 2005

Just my size!

We've mentioned on several occasions that Lura likes to play on pianos. Now that her cousins Allegra and Stella have graduated to a full-size one, Lura's Auntie Jennifer and Uncle Qing sent her the little octave-and-a-half "chime" piano the cousins had used, which is just the right size for Lura now!

Reading with Ivy and Parker

This little couch in class is just the right size for Lura, Ivy, and Parker as Erica reads to them.

With Donna at Leslie's bridal shower

On May 22nd Cheryl went to Leslie's bridal shower. Here they are with Donna, at whose wedding both she and Leslie had first met Lura.

With Flik at A Bug's Land

On May 25th Lura and Cheryl went to Disneyland again. This time they spent a lot of time in "A Bug's Land," home of Flik the ant. Lura is a lot calmer than Mark would be in the hands of a giant bug!

At Princess Dot's Puddle Park

Lura loves playing with water, and she had a great time in Princess Dot's Puddle Park.

My fountain!

She got downright territorial about this little fountain, defending it against all comers!

Lookin' way Californian

Twice a year, during the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, Hermosa Beach has a big street fair and arts festival. Here we are on May 29th, waiting in the parking lot of a nearby school for a shuttle to take us to the fair. With her shades, hat, and hula-girl shirt, not to mention the palm trees and sunshine in the background, Lura looks pretty Californian, doesn't she?

First taste of Coldstone Creamery ice cream

A Coldstone Creamery shop just opened up in Hermosa, and we stopped there to cool off and give Lura her first taste of their especially good ice cream.

First solo ride on a swing

The next evening we walked to a small park near our house, the Mathews Parkette. Lura got to climb, bounce, and slide on a lot of different playground equipment, and here she "soloes" for the first time on a swing!

Happier with Mommy

Before this, she had always refused to sit alone on a swing, and she looked a bit nervous; she was much happier when Mommy sat on the swing and then held Lura in her lap!

Interesting texture...

She also discovered that the wood chips strewn on the ground were interesting to play with. Mark made the mistake of referring to them as "wood chips" in her hearing, and then we had to persuade her that these aren't the kind of chips that are yummy to put in your mouth! She doesn't miss much; gotta be careful what we say around her!
