August was pretty quiet, between family visits and the choir tour in July and Lura's second birthday in September. On August 13th we went to the Western Museum of Flight Air Faire at the Hawthorne Airport. Mark saw several aircraft that he'd never seen before, as well as many old friends; Lura was particularly taken with this P-40, shouting "Shark!" She wasn't the only one; there must be a lot of "Finding Nemo" fans out there. (The association would be even stronger if this concept illustration had made it into the film...)
Here are Lura and Dylan at Adventure City on August 18th. We're not sure what to make of Lura's expression here...
This expression is much easier! Chocolate-covered ice cream bars, and chocolate-covered ice cream faces, are pretty easy to interpret.
On August 26th the Mommy and Me playgroup went to see a marionette show at Valley Park. Lura and Gracie, and Dylan and Ivy on either side, are fascinated, and their moms seem to be pretty interested too.
The kids got a chance to get better acquainted with this cowboy marionette. Lura also wandered around to the side and peeked behind the puppeteer's "stage curtain" to see how the magic worked. How ya gonna learn if you don't investigate?
