On February 1st, Dylan stayed with us for the evening while his parents went off to a church meeting. Here he and Lura take a rest after playing together; they appear to be as mesmerized by Animusic as Mark is!
On February 3rd, Lura and Cheryl's Mommy and Me group went to the Petersen Automotive Museum (Mark wishes he could have gone along!). In addition to the antique and classic automobiles on display, there's a kids' area where you can climb on things and even draw on the walls. Here Gracie copilots for Lura in a race car.
In the old Ford across the room, it was Gracie's turn to take the wheel.
Of course, books about cars are lots of fun too. We'll have to see about getting her a collection of "how things work" books like this as she gets older.
Here are Ivy and Lura at class the next day, painting in the play area. (Apparently their friend Tanner had been there earlier.) Note Lura's protective apron; sometimes that's not enough to keep her clothes unpainted...
The next day Mark finally went for a haircut, and since we stopped to do so in the middle of running errands, Lura and Cheryl came inside the barbershop to wait for him. Lura is clearly absorbed in that magazine article she's perusing!
The next day we went shopping for a "duallie" stroller, since Lura's baby brother's arrival was only about seven weeks away. The challenge is to find one that is maneuverable, easy to fold and unfold, and narrow enough to get through doorways and grocery-store aisles--a complicated balancing act. It also has to be toddler-friendly, so that Lura will actually be willing to ride in it, and so she helped Mommy give each one a test-drive. This one has an upright, rear-facing seat, or she can turn around and stand facing forward on the platform where she's resting her feet here. Actually, we won't need it for awhile after baby brother is born, but we wanted to shop while we were a little more mobile!
The next day (it gets busy around here!) Cheryl and Lura went with a group of friends to Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure across the road. Here Lura, Hana, Dylan, and Lucy hang out in front of the waterfall at the entrance to the California Adventure.
They met a lot of their Disney-character friends there. Here Lura and Dylan get a hug from Winnie the Pooh (silly old bear!).
Note Dylan's Chip & Dale T-shirt in the previous photo. Here Lura, Lucy and others meet Chip.
Eeyore looked so gloomy that Dylan offered him a cookie to cheer him up!
The next evening the Doughtys came over for dinner. Here are Gracie's mom, dad, and Nana with Cheryl and Lura.
Her grandpa John is particularly good at entertaining Gracie (and her friends). Like Mark, he doesn't let grown-up dignity stand in the way of having a good time with kids!
In particular, Mark enjoys making up funny voices for the characters in books--so much so, that Lura (consulting with Cheryl) has given him several children's books for him to read to her, including the classic he's reading to Gracie here. Thanks, Lura!
