Our tightly-scheduled lives took one last "swipe" at us before we escaped them on our nice long Hawaiian visit! First Cheryl's alarm didn't work, and she only awakened when Mark showed up at her door to take her to his apartment complex to meet the airport shuttle. Because she had everything set out in advance, we were actually able to make it out the door on time, though; but then, when we called Mark's voicemail to check for messages from the shuttle service, sure enough we found one--the van had broken down, and we had to get a taxi on short notice! Fortunately we were able to do this, and once we had waded through the Los Angeles Airport traffic and the long lines of holiday fliers, we were finally able to relax on a smooth flight to Honolulu. The flight even arrived half an hour early!
This was Mark's first opportunity to meet Cheryl's family, so we spent most of the day after arrival simply getting acquainted, and also moved Mark in to an apartment near the beach (Cheryl will be staying with her family). Here's a photo of all of us at dinner: left to right are youngest sister Gail, father Stanford, middle sister Judy, Mark, Cheryl, and mother Marian. (Note the beautiful woven leis they presented to us when we arrived!) We are looking forward to enjoying the holidays together!
