Merry Christmas, or in Hawaiian, Mele Kalikimaka! In order not to delay the start of the Christmas celebration while Cheryl drove over to where Mark is staying to pick him up (almost an hour round trip), he stayed on the couch next to the Christmas tree overnight. We'll do the same thing on New Year's Eve, so that nobody has to drive him back to the apartment after midnight through the thick haze of fireworks smoke...

Tree on Christmas morning

Santa Claus didn't wake Mark up when he stopped by to add the last presents to the stack already under the tree!

Cheryl and Mark with sweater

Among the dozens of packages under the tree was one containing a sweater that Cheryl had been working on for Mark; it will find daily use, year-round, in his chilly office at work.

Some new toys

Of course, after unwrapping your presents, ya gotta spend some time playing with them! Cheryl's mom is attaching the strap to her new digital camera, Judy is reading "Face Forward" (a book on makeup artistry that Cheryl and Mark had noted while wrapping presents at Barnes & Noble last week), and Cheryl's dad is learning the "Graffiti" alphabet for his Palm IIIxe while Gail looks on.

Mostly we spent the day at home, with a couple of friends dropping by to exchange presents; in the afternoon Cheryl, her mom, and Mark went to see "The Grinch." He didn't steal this Christmas!
