On 11 February 2004, Cheryl's friend Jen (who emceed our wedding reception) drove by with her son David to meet Lura. The two seem to be getting along pretty well here!
A couple of days later we took Lura to King's Hawaiian Restaurant for the first time; here we are in front of their big aquarium. We have picked out a few of our favorite restaurants as being "family friendly," mainly meaning that they're noisy enough that she won't disturb other diners if she cries; King's gets a lot of business from families who have it on their own versions of this list.
On 19 February 2004 Mark's and his co-workers took some of their number to The Olive Garden for a birthday lunch, and Cheryl and Lura joined them. Here Lura is being held by Fong, who gave her that nice warm outfit she's wearing.
On 3 March 2004 Lura was six months old! That day we tried her out on solid food for the first time. Of course "solid" is a relative term, applying here to very runny rice cereal, but still it's a new skill to acquire. Lura did pretty well, though she didn't much like having the spoon taken out of her mouth after every bite; after all, such interruptions are not necessary with milk or formula, so what gives?
That same day Cheryl's Mom came to visit again, and also had a try at feeding Lura cereal. Also, 3 March is Girls' Day! Grandma had brought this beautiful Japanese doll from Hawaii for Lura, and also the chachanko she's wearing (a special kimono for Girls' Day), so she was able to celebrate the day properly.
The next day was Cheryl's birthday; here she is opening cards and gifts. Lura is a little young to want to help, but just wait...
Here are a few more photos of Lura at about six to six and a half months: sitting on the couch...
...wearing her lace-trimmed hat...
...and enjoying herself in her activity center!
