On 10 April 2004 we went to a local park to celebrate the second birthday of David, son of Mike and Jen (Cheryl's friend who emceed our wedding reception). Jen and David had met Lura two months earlier.
Several other friends and family were there. Here Lura, Cheryl, Mike, Jen, and David's Grandma and Cousin Katie applaud him as he blows out the candles on his cake.
Here are David's parents and grandparents (Jen's parents) with Cheryl and Lura. It was a breezy but comfortable day to be in the park (one that was specially set up with little kids in mind), and we had a lot of fun.
The next day was Easter Sunday! Mark sang both services with the Senior Choir, and Cheryl and Lura joined him for the potluck brunch between services in the choir room. (You can see some Hot Cross Buns on the table in the background; Cheryl brought a "S'mores" style pan cookie, which was snapped up very quickly!) Here's Lura in her Easter dress and bonnet, sitting on the choir director's chair. Such a little lady!
That evening we drove down to the beach near where Cheryl used to live (a couple of miles south of Mark's old apartment), to have a walk before going out to dinner. We stopped at a particular bench that is one of our special places from when we were dating, and sat for awhile; Lura enjoyed the wind, and the people-watching.
The following weekend, Cheryl attended the big "Sessions" meeting of Tupperware folks at the L.A. Convention Center on Friday and Saturday. Rather than make her shuttle back and forth, we all set up in a nearby hotel Friday afternoon, and Mark stayed with Lura that evening and the next morning. This was our first chance to use the Pack-N-Play portable crib that we had received as a hand-me-down from Frank and Barbara; here's Lura sitting in it with a small entourage (including, of course, Pinky Bear).
After checkout time on Saturday, Mark took Lura to the Convention Center, and we wheeled around in the stroller, walked, slept, and ate (mostly squash) until Cheryl's meeting was done. Here Lura is introduced to several of Cheryl's fellow managers, and the distributor under whom they all work.
Back home, here's a photo of Lura, from a baby's-eye viewpoint, at seven and a half months. She pushes up on her elbows and occasionally her hands when we place her on her tummy on a blanket, and she'll reach for toys, mostly to put them in her mouth!
