Lily, Ken, and Justin came down from San Jose to visit family over the Independence Day weekend, and on 3 July 2004 they dropped in to visit us.
It's been a lot of fun seeing our two little ones grow up together over the course of our visits north and south! The next evening we took Lura to the beach near where Cheryl used to live so we could watch the fireworks, but she fell asleep in her car seat on the way and so we just double-parked and stood near the car to enjoy the shows to the north and south of us. Next year maybe Lura will stay awake!
It's getting harder and harder to persuade Lura to come out of the bath; she has entirely too much fun in there.
What's even more fun than a rubber ducky is splashing with both hands and both feet!
Here's Lura at about eleven months playing with her Shape-O toy. She can put any of the shapes into its hole, including the complicated ones like the star and the cross, though we still have to help her choose the right hole.
Here Lura is sharing her Shape-O and other toys with Maya, who visited with her parents on 18 July 2004.
We met Maya's parents Deborah and Ron during a childbirth-preparation class we were in together at Torrance Memorial Hospital, and we've kept in touch since.
A week later Cheryl's former co-worker Kathy came to visit, and we took her to Back Home in Lahaina, a new Hawaiian restaurant that opened up near us. Lura's placemat is a really clever design called a "Tiny Diner"; it sticks to smooth tabletops with suction cups, and has a "gutter" hanging over the edge to catch dropped food. Of course, it doesn't help if Lura decides to throw food!
On the last day of the month we went to an engagement party for Cheryl's good friend Leslie.
Among the guests were Donna and Nader, whose wedding Lura had attended when she was about eleven weeks old.
