First Two Weeks at Home with David, 30 March - 10 April 2006

Checkup

Two days after we brought him home, we took David to the pediatrician for a checkup. He's doing fine, and again, he's strong enough that it's difficult to get him to stretch out so he can be measured!

Eight days old

Here's David getting some tummy time (we put him on his back at night, of course) on April 1st, at the age of eight days.

Dolly from Auntie Jennifer

As presents for David arrived from family and friends, many of them were accompanied by gifts for Lura. Here she hugs a dolly made for her by Mark's sister Auntie Jennifer, a baby brother for the one she gave her last Valentine's Day!

Bye bye, Grandpa!

On April 4th, Grandpa went back to Hawaii. Here he says goodbye to his sleeping grandson.

Donna and Nader visit

Later that day, Donna and Nader came by to visit and to meet David. Lura had first met them at their wedding, when she was eleven weeks old.

David in car seat

Here's David sitting in his car seat on April 6th, thirteen days old. We took a similar photo of Lura when she was six days old; it's interesting how different they look, with David only a week older.

Lura in hedge

We've tried to make sure Lura doesn't lack for attention, despite the necessary focus on getting David settled in; we also tried to get her out of the house in the early days, before Cheryl and David were ready to go to class with her for example, so she wouldn't go completely stir crazy! On April 8th, Mark took her to Fort Lots-O-Fun, a park a mile or two from our house. They had plenty of playground equipment, including the "fort," but Lura had the most fun with this "clubhouse" that she and some of the other kids there discovered inside a hedgerow.

First bath at home

That evening we gave David his first bath at home. He hasn't gotten to the point that he can enjoy splashing in the water just yet, but Lura had a good time watching him!

"I love him"

Lura is very affectionate with her baby brother, and enjoys hugging him and saying "I love him."

Hugging Mommy

She's got plenty of hugs for Mommy, too!

New bike helmet

On April 9th we put on her new Winnie-the-Pooh bike helmet, and Mark took her outside for a spin around the block on her tricycle.

Hey, I have hands!

Here's David on April 10th, two and a half weeks old. He appears to have noticed that he has a hand over there somewhere!
