As she did last year, Lura went to the party hosted by the young adults' group at our church the day before Easter. This time, though, Mommy and Daddy stayed home with David, and she went with the Doughtys. Here she is with Gracie, her cousin Caelen, and the Easter Bunny. (Thanks to John Doughty for several of the photos on this page!)
Lura and Gracie's friend Ivy was there too. The kids had fun making Easter baskets from Chinese-restaurant take-home boxes decorated with stickers!
Again as we had last year, we joined the Doughtys for a picnic afterward. This time, though, we gathered at the home of John and Nancy Jo, Gracie's Papa and Nana, rather than at a park. The kids sat at the table with all the good food that the family had provided, and the grown-ups had a "carpet picnic" in the living room.
This was the Doughtys' first chance to meet David, who stayed with Cheryl (and his blue bunny) most of the time.
Of course, there were plenty of Easter baskets to go around, full of gifts, including bubble-making gear that got a workout outside...
...and, for Lura especially, stickers galore to share!
On Easter Sunday our church has two services (not counting the sunrise gathering at the beach, which we've never managed to attend...), and between them the Senior Choir always has a potluck brunch. Grandma helped Cheryl get the two kids there, so they could enjoy it and so our choir friends could meet David.
When Mark first took Cheryl to meet the choir, he warned her that it would be like meeting a roomful of his aunts and uncles, all of whom wanted to see him married off! Nancy Jo, David Evans, and many others have become a fine set of "calabash aunties and uncles" for our kids in the years since then.
Mark had gone to the first service alone on his electric moped, and the others joined him there for the potluck. When we all got home after the second service, before Mark put the scooter away he helped Lura ride it around our driveway for a bit.
And, of course, Easter wouldn't be complete without some colorful eggs! This was Lura's first time coloring them; next time we'll have to do it earlier so the Easter Bunny can hide them the night before.
