In mid-May, Mark went to Montreal for a week to attend the semiannual meeting of the American Geophysical Union, and Cheryl's Mom decided (on fairly short notice!) to come help Cheryl with Lura while he was away. On Thursday 20 May 2004, Mom accompanied Lura and Cheryl to a "Mommy and Me" class that they'd been attending, taught by a friend of ours from the church, Linda Mack.
At the end of each class, Linda has Bun-Bun sing goodbye to each baby in turn. Always a happy ending!
When Mom last visited, she helped Lura start eating solid foods. Since then, Lura has tried more and more kinds, and she particularly likes the orange vegetables (squash, pumpkin, sweet potato). Got carrots?
The next day, Lura, Mommy, and Grandma met Jen and David at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. Jen had recommended this as an inexpensive (with family membership) place that Lura will enjoy visiting again and again; Mark looks forward to coming along on their next trip!
Of course, Lura doesn't need to go very far afield to find something worth studying.
The night before Mom went home, we took her to King's Hawaiian Restaurant, one of our favorites. We were surprised she wanted to go there, since she was about to go back to a place with a lot of Hawaiian restaurants, but hey, the food is really good at King's!
And here's our now-traditional photo of three generations sitting on our mantel downstairs. Lura is, as always, larger and more upright (at almost nine months) than in the previous versions of this photo, and her hair is longer too!
